9 Helpful Ideas and Tips for Nursery Decor
When you are excitedly trying to plan out a nursery decor for your baby, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by the range of options that are out there. Before diving in, you should take some time to think about what you want in your child’s room.
Here are a few nursery decor ideas that you could incorporate when you are thinking of decorating your child’s nursery.
- Choose a specific theme that you would like to have in the nursery. You should try to have some sort of overarching theme that determines most of your room décor and furniture choices. It can also be helpful to create a theme which is gender neutral. You could look at options like jungle animals, the ocean, or outer space and buy accessories to match and enhance the theme.
- Have peg rails and/or small wicker bins in the room to organize their clothes. When decorating your child’s room have the peg rail and bins close to them, where they can see their clothes. When working with children and trying to get them to change, it can become a nightmare. Instead, have a few clothing options at your child’s eye line every day, so that they have the option to choose the clothes they want to. This will make both of your lives a little bit easier.
- Get a comfortable chair in the room. During the initial months after having a child, more often than not you will end up sleeping in the same room as your infant, either to keep an eye out for them or out of sheer exhaustion. Either way, it will be helpful to you while decorating their room to keep a small space for yourself where you can stay comfortable while looking after your child.
- Use colors and various toys to create as much diversity as possible. This will prove to be an enriching learning experience for your child, especially once they can see longer distances. Keep in mind that it’s important to provide sufficient stimulation for your child, but overdoing it runs the risk of overstimulation which could be counterproductive.
- Make a photo wall. Designate one photo wall that initially has pictures of a few important people from their life, with space to keep adding on pictures of their new favorite things over time. This is a great way for your child to connect with and recognize the people in their life who are closest to them.
- Create a colorful feature wall. Use bright colors to awaken your child’s senses, including the use of primary colors (red, yellow, and blue). Create feature walls with color objects (in line with the theme of your nursery decor) that will not only add aesthetic value to your room but will eventually be a part of their learning experience.
- Create a space that also has thick and tactile structures. This will help enhance the sensory input and sense of touch for your child. Especially as they grow older, they will be curious and will want to reach out to explore objects. In this situation, they will have ample opportunity to reach out and understand how objects feel.
- Make sure that your nursery has ample room for storage. Babies come with a lot of things that need to be kept in places that are an arm’s length away, while also making sure they are not scattered about. Creating a nursery decor which has space for storage is always beneficial to you.
- When picking décor for your child’s room try to create it in a way that ensures your child will be able to use the room for quite a long period of their life. A good way to do this is to create a space that has some room for flexibility. This way, as your child grows older, there are ways to easily incorporate their interests into the room.
Your child’s space should be enriching, comforting, and safe. Try to ensure you do these things to the best of your ability for your child’s sake and your own.
